"The false is so mingled with the truth, and looks so like it that there is no sure mark whereby we may distinguish one from the other.  It is a damned fool of a world."   written by Madeline Cartier, a 'patient' at Willard State Hospital.   From the book "The Lives They Left Behind:  Suitcases from a State Hospital Attic"  by Darby Penney and Peter Stastny...............

Just finished this book.   Interesting and appalling that we treated people so poorly.   But then we probably still treat the mentally ill as if we are just warehousing them for the most part.  The crime was further exacerbated by the fact that some (many?) like the writer above, should never have been there to begin with.
